Chesterfield County 2008 Legislative Program
Overview
The 2008 Legislative Program was approved by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors on October 24, 2007. The initiatives in this Legislative Program support Chesterfield County’s Strategic Goals, in particular goals 1 and 3 as follows:

To be exemplary stewards of the public trust and a model for excellence in government
Strategic Goal 3:
To be known for extraordinary quality of life
2008 Legislative Initiatives
Transportation / Growth
- Continue to seek opportunities for additional transportation funding
- Protect Cash Proffer and Road Impact Fee Authority
- Prevent state cost-shifting to localities
- Oppose additional unfunded state mandates
- Protect land use and zoning authority
Financial Strength
- Support a $358,000 state budget appropriation for the Dual Treatment Track Program.
- Support a review of staffing standards for sheriffs and other constitutional officers.
- Oppose changes to the jail inmate phone commission.
- Protect local revenues.
- Support Riverside Regional Jail receiving expected Compensation Board funding for personnel to staff the jail’s Pre-Release Center.
Quality of Life /
Safety and Security
- Support legislation on illegal immigration that assists local governments in addressing community concerns.
- Request authority to require those applying for a business license from the county to certify that they do not employ illegal immigrants. (SB385)
- Support creation of a DUI court for Chesterfield / Colonial Heights. (HB876) (SB391)
